Dagon

The third movie is “Dagon,” which was originally a Spanish movie released in 2001, though dubbed and subtitled versions are available. Despite the name, “Dagon” is based more so on H.P. Lovecraft’s story “The Shadow Over Innsmouth.” The plot revolves around a group of people who, shipwrecked, must seek refuge from a storm on a nearby island. However, the natives of the island are incredibly peculiar. Simultaneously, one of the characters begins to have hideous visions which he quickly realizes are something more than just dream. This movie excels at creating a gothic, indescribably weird atmosphere replete with tension and unpredictability. The acting, music and overall mood of the film (established by constant rain and weird behaviors) makes it a very suspenseful work of art.
