Joining the Country Music Awards and the Emmy’s in the Fall 2020 award show season are the Billboard Music Awards, which will be broadcasted on Oct. 14, 2020. The show was originally set to air live from Las Vegas on Apr. 29, 2020 but because of growing COVID-19 concerns, it was ultimately postponed.

Despite the changed date, many aspects will remain the same for this year’s show. The event still plans to take place at the Grand Garden Arena in Las Vegas, and Kelly Clarkson will return as the host for the third year in a row. As for nominees, familiar faces from last year’s awards are up again for the biggest titles. Ed Sheeran and Post Malone were nominated both this year and last year for Top Male Artist, while Ariana Grande and Taylor Swift have been named as contenders for Top Female Artist the last two years as well.

However, there are quite a few newcomers this year. DaBaby, Billie Eilish, Lil Nas X, Lizzo and Roddy Ricch are up for their first nominations, one of them being Top New Artist. Fans are hoping these five musicians will perform on stage during one of music’s biggest nights, but Billboard has not made any performance official thus far.

Another award category fans are watching closely is Top Duo/Group. Similarly to Top Male and Female Artist, this year’s nominees remain almost entirely the same as last year’s. BTS, Dan + Shay, Maroon 5 and Panic! At The Disco have all claimed their previous spot. However, this year the Jonas Brothers are replacing Imagine Dragons as one of the nominees for Top Group. The band has worked their way up the charts with songs like “Sucker,” “Only Human” and “What A Man Gotta Do.”

Perhaps one of the most, if not the most, anticipated awards of the night is Top Hot 100 Song. The winner of this category will have arguably one of the biggest songs of the year. The nominations include “Someone You Loved” by Lewis Calpaldi, “Señorita” by Shawn Mendes & Camila Cabello, “bad guy” by Billie Eilish, “Old Town Road” by Lil Nas X ft. Billy Ray Cyrus and Lizzo’s “Truth Hurts.”

Thanks to the Billboard Music Awards, music-lovers can finally see their favorite artists get the recognition they deserve. They will also get the chance to watch show-stopping live performances from the biggest names in the industry, even if it is through a television screen. So, get yourself and your ears ready for a night of out-of-this-world music and outstanding awards.
