Bobby Shmurda is free
March 1, 2021
On Feb. 23, 2021, Ackquille Pollard, or better known as his industry name Bobby Shmurda, was released from prison. Shmurda was incarcerated for nearly seven years on conspiracy and weapons possession. He gained fame with his performance in the “Shmoney Dance” video, which had millions of YouTube views.
The 26-year-old rapper pleaded guilty in connection with his membership in the GS9 gang of East Flatbush. He was arrested in 2014 outside a recording studio in Midtown, where police found two guns and crack cocaine in his car. Shmurda would then spend the next six years and two months in Clinton Correctional Facility in Dannemora, New York. The court papers claimed that Shmurda fired a gun toward a crowd of people outside a barbershop in Brooklyn. It was also stated that he was present during a confrontation between rival drug gangs outside a Brooklyn courthouse where shots were also fired. Shmurda is now with his mother in Long Island, and has his first probation hearing next week.
Ahead of Shmurda’s discharge, Quavo told fans he plans to do something big for his release.
“I’m going to get my guy, I’m personally gonna go pick up Bobby Shmurda. I’m ‘bout to go get him. I’m gonna let him show you how I’m gonna pick him up, yessir. It’s gonna be big,” Said Quavo in a tweet.
As promised, Quavo was there to observe the Brooklyn rapper free from prison. His big surprise to the newly freed star, a private jet to escort him home, transitioning him right back into the rapper lifestyle without skipping a beat. Before Shmurda did anything, he FaceTimed his mother, and upon his return home, he and his family celebrated with a private dinner. In a message shared on his behalf, he thanked everyone for their continued support.
“Thank you for remaining loyal and for riding this six-year sentence out with me,” said Shmurda. “I love you all and look forward to seeing you soon.”
Bobby’s plans as of now are to soak up some quality time with his family before jumping back into the studio.
