The lake takes place in Texas at a summer camp where one specific camp counselor, Esme, is being targeted by someone from outside the camp. This book is suspenseful and keeps the reader on their feet as they are reading. Esme and her best friend went to a summer camp when they were both younger. However, they snuck out one night and did something very bad only they know about. They promise to keep their secret safe between the two of them forever and never tell anyone about it.

However, the truth gets out and someone knows about what they did that night. Only, Esme and her best friend do not know who knows about what they did or who is out to get them. Esme is stuck at this summer camp the whole summer, unable to leave and go home. While she is there, she is constantly receiving threats from an unknown person every day. The problem is, she cannot go to the police because then her secret will get out and everyone will know what she did.

If you have ever read any of Preston’s books, “The Lake” will not be a let down. The suspenseful, mysterious thriller draws it’s reader to the book, not allowing them to put it down until they are finished reading it, making it a very quick read. “The Lake” is a highly recommended, fan favorite that you would not want to miss out on.
