The LHS dance team has never received the credit they deserve for their sacrifices and dedication to their team, as they have not placed highly the past few seasons. However,  the most recent competitive cheer and dance competition has brought quite an exciting turn of events for this year’s dance team, especially regarding hip hop. The hip hop group placed 2nd at the Brookings competition this past weekend, giving the group a much deserved title.

“We really did not think we were going to get second so when we heard our name we were shocked and so happy we jumped up and screamed,” said LHS sophomore Bella Krenik.

The two styles of dance that make up the LHS dance team are hip hop and jazz. These girls earned their 2nd place as they practice every day in the mornings and after school, working out all of the little flaws and kinks found in their routines. Outside of the sport itself, the team is lucky to be full of girls who support each other and push one another to improve.

“This is my first year on the team and it has been such a great experience; it has helped me become a better dancer and I got to spend time with some of my favorite people,” said Krenik.

Along with performing and placing, the dancers will always have a special spot for all the memories created from the time spent off the dance floor. The LHS dance teams get to spend the whole day with other people who share a love for the sport, along with watching and learning from other school’s routines throughout the day.

“Competitions are super fun because it is this day-long event where you get to get ready with your friends, watch other teams and bond with your own teammates,” said Krenik.

As the LHS dance team moves forward into a hopeful season they are constantly trying to make their routines better by adding touches such as more difficult and eye-catching choreography along with new tricks. Of course, the overall goal would be to win or place high at State, but until then all the team can do is push themselves and remember to have fun.
