Over the weekend, Jaxson and I found the courage within ourselves to brave the Chick-fil-A line.

Long ago, when I had the privilege of taking my first ever bite of a Chick-fil-A chicken sandwich, my world was forever changed. The feeling I had while eating it was indescribable, and without a doubt, it blew every other chicken sandwich I had ever eaten before out of the water. However, there was a problem: I wasn’t in Sioux Falls, and at the time Sioux Falls did not have a Chick-fil-A. As I devoured my sandwich while still trying to savor it, I thought to myself, when would be the next time I would be able to experience this immaculate sandwich again?

This question circled my mind every time I finished my Chick-fil-A meal. However, it soon came to a halt as Sioux Falls has finally been granted its first Chick-fil-A. With the grand opening of the Chick-fil-A a few weeks ago, the buzz surrounding it has only continued to grow. Everyone has been excited to eat the beloved chicken sandwich again, which has created very long wait lines, especially in the drive thru. I decided to conquer the drive thru line over the weekend, and in the process made a list of the top seven things to do while dreaming about your sandwich.

  1. Take someone with you: From my experience, the line can be very slow moving, so I recommend taking someone with you to share your pain. That way you have someone to talk to while also generously thanking them by buying their meal!
  2. Order an appetizer while waiting: With businesses like Crumbl Cookies and Chipotle literally in the same parking lot, why not order an appetizer?! I ordered the flavors of the week from Crumbl and tried those while waiting, but chips and guac from Chipotle would be a solid choice as well.
  3. Make a new playlist: Trust me when I say you will have plenty of time to make a new playlist. If you don’t want to do this though, you could also take the time to listen to a few newly released songs (ex: “Easy On Me” by Adele) or even clean up a few old playlists.
  4. Get some soap: Sounds weird, but if you go after Oct. 28, you could get some soap from Buff City soap while waiting in line! At least it would make your car smell good while sitting there for that long.
  5. Play a game: This can either be a game with the person you are with, or on your phone. Look up some “would you rather” questions, truths or dares or even download a new app to pass the time. I personally like to do puzzles on my phone, but do what you wish.
  6. Online shop: Because who doesn’t love shopping! Also, since the winter and snowfall is just around the corner, this is a perfect excuse to treat yourself and order a bunch of new sweatshirts and sweatpants!
  7. Brainstorm for your next Statesman Story: This is the perfect opportunity to come up with an idea for your next story! With all the time you have to waste sitting in line, you will have plenty of time to gather a few ideas.
