For the first time since 1995, the Atlanta Braves are World Series champions. On Oct. 26, 2021, the Atlanta Braves faced off against the Houston Astros. It was only a few years ago that the Astros won the World Series and the cheating scandal shook the baseball world. Before the series, the Astros were the favorite. They won the World Series in 2017 and made it in 2019 yet fell short of the title. This year they were back and ready to take home another World Series Championship.

The Braves took the first game with a final of 6-2. In game two the Astros showed their offense and tied the series 1-1. The third and fourth games were the closest games of the series. In game five the Astros held on to their chance to come back and be Champions.

Game six left many in disbelief at the Braves offensive parade. With a 7-0 final, the Braves finished the World Series as champions.

According to Braves.com, “Atlanta snapped a streak that its fans were certainly tired of hearing about. The Braves had made 16 postseason appearances from 1996 to 2020 without finishing any of them off with a World Series championship, an MLB record. As it turned out, No. 17 was the charm.”

The Willie Mays World Series MVP Award presented by Chevrolet was given to Jorge Soler for his outstanding performance during the entirety of the World Series.

Soler’s three-run moonshot to open the scoring in the third inning of Game 6 was his third homer of the World Series, along with a leadoff shot to open Game 1 and a go-ahead, pinch-hit job in the seventh inning of Game 4. The three big flies tied a Braves record for a single postseason series, and Soler became only the sixth player to hit at least that many to give his team a lead in a single World Series,” said mlb.com.

The Braves ace Max Fried also had a very successful game six. Having six scoreless innings, Fried joins only six others who have tossed six scoreless innings in a potential “World Series clincher.” With the help of his offense as well the Braves were able to score seven runs and shut out the Astros in the final game of the 2021 World Series.
