School is almost out, and it is almost winter break. Some people are traveling for the holidays, while others are just staying home. If you are stuck at home and do not know what to do, here are a few fun ideas.

Ice skating: If you are looking for something active to do, ice skating is a great option. It is fun for any age, and you can do it inside or outside. Some places you can ice skate at are McKennan Park, SCHEELS IcePlex or Tuthill Park. Be sure to bundle up if you decide to go because it is bound to be chilly, and you would not want to be too cold. After you go ice skating, you can warm up with some hot chocolate!

Last minute shopping: If you have not done all of your holiday shopping, you can do some last minute shopping. You can go to the Empire Mall, Target or Scheels for all of your essential gifts. However, if you are on a budget this holiday season, you can make a handmade gift from home.

Make a gingerbread house: You are never too old to make a gingerbread house. You can have a gingerbread house competition with your friends and see who makes the best one! Doing this will put you in the holiday spirit and will bring you closer to friends or family. You can buy gingerbread house kits at Walmart, Target, Walgreens, or you can look up receipts to make your own!

Go to Great Bear: Great Bear is a really fun place to go with friends or family. If you are looking for a more laid-back experience you can go tubing down the huge hill. However, if you are looking to be more adventurous you can make the decision to go skiing or snowboarding. For beginners, the bunny hill is a great option, but if you are more experienced they have larger hills available as well.

Watch a movie: If you want to have a relaxing night then you could watch a movie! I would recommend watching a Christmas movie from the comfort of my own home. My favorite Christmas movies are “The Grinch,” “Elf” and “Home Alone.” Otherwise, if you are looking to get out of the house you can go to the State Theater, which is located in Downtown Sioux Falls in order, to get the full cinematic experience.

Bake: If you love baking like I do, then it would be a great idea to make a sweet treat over holiday break. The options are endless; you could choose to bake Christmas cookies, cake, brownies or even cupcakes. Because it is the season of giving you could even make some extras and deliver them to your neighbors.
