The weekend of Mar. 17-19, 2022 the LHS boys basketball competed in the State tournament. The boys ended the tournament as the consolation bracket champions, with two wins and one loss.

The first round that LHS played in was on Mar. 17, 2022. LHS played against OGHS. At the beginning of the game, it was close scoring but after halftime, it slowly went downhill for LHS. The final score of the game was 57-34. This start of the tournament was not what the Patriots were hoping for, but they finished the tournament off strong the last two games.

The second round was on Mar. 18, 2022. LHS played against JHS. LHS was down the entire game, and JHS was leading strongly the majority of the game. Then, at the very end of the game, LHS sophomore JT Rock hit a three point buzzer beater to give the patriots a berth in the consolation championship. The final score was 69-68.

And finally, the last game for LHS was on Mar. 19, 2022, against Mitchell. LHS was down in the first half and then came back in the second half and took the lead, which they kept for the rest of the game. The final score was 69-52. Even though LHS lost the very first game of the tournament, they still kept the positive energy up and finished the tournament strong, receiving fifth place.

Not only did the basketball players do a fantastic job at state, but the LHS basketball cheerleaders also received the Spirit of Six award in honor of the Rapid City cheerleaders that sadly passed away on the way back home in 1968. The boys basketball cheerleaders earned this award and the girls basketball cheerleaders also received this award.

The tournament was located at the Denny Sanford PREMIER Center. The championship game was against RHS and OGHS. The final game was very close and it went into overtime. After a close and interesting game, RHS won 54-52. LHS players did a great job in the tournament and finished strong with a positive attitude regardless of losing the first game.
