The season two finale of “Euphoria” was released Feb. 27, 2022, garnering 6.6 million viewers across all platforms according to HBO. This season has without a doubt taken over nearly every social media platform. Scrolling through TikTok, one is bound to see a video about the show. Instagram stories are full of the star’s posts and “Euphoria” has trended on Twitter throughout the whole season.

“Euphoria” is a dramatic portrayal of high school and the events teenagers go through. While many would argue it is not the most realistic show, viewers are able to connect to the struggles the characters go through whether it is drug abuse or drama with your best friend. One of the most interesting aspects of “Euphoria” is how it takes us through each character’s backstory and things they have gone through. The show keeps a balance between unbelievable drama that keeps viewers coming back with relatable problems or situations, which is what makes it so popular.

The cast, led by well-known actress Zendaya, has helped the show become the second most-watched series since 2004, behind only “Game Of Thrones,” WarnerMedia reports. The viewership was so high, it even reportedly caused HBO Max to crash minutes before the Season finale Sunday night.

According to HBO, “‘Euphoria’s season two episodes are now averaging 16.3 million viewers. To date, the second-season premiere’s viewership has approached 19 million viewers in the U.S., with the per-episode-viewership average up nearly 100% from the first season with just the first four episodes of season two.”

The Euphoria craze started well before its release, as viewers had to wait two years for the pandemic postponed second season. According to Twitter, ”there have been 34 million tweets since ‘Euphoria’ returned in January, marking a 51% increase in activity since the first season premiered in 2019.”

The heavy subjects illustrated in “Euphoria” have helped make it so popular. A show unlike any other has amassed solid viewership and fans that are asking for more. No surprise, the show has been confirmed to be renewed for a third season being released in 2023.

Lead star and executive producer Zendaya addressed the heavy topics like teen addiction that “Euphoria” takes on, insisting that “Euphoria” is not “a moral tale to teach people how to live their life.” Rather according to Zendaya, the show sets out to “hopefully help people feel a little bit less alone in their experience and their pain, and maybe feel like they’re not the only one going through or dealing with what they’re dealing with.”
