As A-List celebrities entered the red carpet steps for the 2022 Met Gala, most of the public recognized the lack of carrying out the “gilded glamor” theme. Although each gala’s theme leaves much room for interpretation and imagination, a majority of the celebrities failed to execute the definition of gilded -which in dictionary definition is “wealthy and privileged”- in contrast to dressing in wealth to dressing of wealth. With some gala backlash for not following the gilded theme, there was the additional theme of, “In America: An Anthology of Fashion” which was the display of pieces with historical context.

With some celebrities who displayed both themes and some who displayed neither…we are going to recognize the Kardashian-Jenner family, as they all made their appearance on the Met carpet together for the first time ever. Their family members ranged from nay to slay on dress theme execution.

Kylie Jenner. Kylie’s outrageous wedding x baseball intertwined outfit, sponsored by Off-white, did not display either of the two themes and was embarrassingly jaw-dropping to all Met Gala watchers. Although Kylie’s appearance defined her as one of the worst dressed celebrities at the 2022 Met Gala, according to Page Six Style, Kylie’s outfit  “was meant as a tribute to the brand’s founder, Virgil Abloh, who died in November 2021 at the age of 41.” Kylie and Abloh were “supposed to go to the Met together before it got postponed in 2020…” which inspired Kylie to represent Abloh’s creations and wear the dress as a tribute to her talented met partner. 5/10

Kourtney Kardashian. With immediate transparency to not being aware of the theme, Kourtney claims that “[she] honestly didn’t really think about it.” Dressed in correlating outfits with Travis Barker designed by Thom Browne, according to Vogue, “Kourtney’s look is the deconstructed version of Travis’s, taking his skirt and blazer and reinterpreting them as her train,” says Kourtney’s stylist Dani Michelle. With no correlation to either theme it is pretty obvious that Kourtney’s only intention was to display her and Barker’s intimate connection at their first Met Gala attended as a couple. 3/10

Khloe Kardashian. Khloe definitely outdressed previously addressed family members in her glittering Moschino gown with slick accessorizing. Khloe is the first mentioned family member to somewhat follow the theme. Although fans may have defined her as basic in comparison to the dramatized pieces worn by her sisters, Khloe met the “gilded glamor” theme by dressing up in display of observed wealth. Gilded can also be defined as “covered thinly with gold leaf or gold paint” by Oxford Languages, which Khloe also accomplished by her shimmery golden gown. Except Khloe is beat by the fact that there were multiple other dresses similar to her’s on the carpet 6/10

Kris Jenner. The adorable, supportive mother that, according to the INSIDER, “[is] spotted keeping up her tradition of standing at the top of the Met Gala steps on Monday, where she waits each year to catch a glimpse of her kids walking the red carpet.” Kris was seen wearing a regal baby yellow, one shoulder dress designed by Oscar de la Renta. Kris’ piece is assumed to be associated with a piece of Jackie Kennedy’s from multiple decades ago. Although, fans argue that Kris’ piece of inspiration from Kennedy’s fashion was from the wrong decade and not the gilded age, which can then be countered by the additional theme of an Anthology of fashion which means pieces that display historical context. By this we conclude neutral association with Kris’ outfit display to the theme. 6/10

Kendall Jenner. Kendall was definitely one of the most gorgeous females on the carpet that night, with a more modern twist on the “gilded glamor” theme as she approached the carpet with a two-piece Prada designed gown. The top half of the piece was more of a sheer modern type of delicacy, while the bottom half tied in the gilded age theme as Kendall carried a gorgeous train with runched designs along the sides of the skirt. Although some viewers may have viewed the addition of Kendall’s bleached eyebrows as “alien-like” , personally I thought they added a unique twist to the look and drew more attention to all of Kendall, not just the dress. With a distinct connection to the theme and gorgeous representation of Prada’s piece, the youngest Jenner definitely overlooked all of her family’s fashion displays as she proved her title as a supermodel. 10/10
