They are just eyebrows
March 8, 2023
One post after the other from huge artists and influencers cause an uproar from fans across the country deciding who is in the right and wrong. Following the 30-year-old singer’s post, the 26-year-old also posts their nonchalant opinions on the topic. Realizing fans are furious, the women announce that nothing was directed.
There has always been some tension between Selena Gomez and Hailey Bieber as news broke in 2018 that Justin Bieber had proposed to Hailey Baldwin (at the time) just six months after he and Gomez broke up. Fans are constantly bringing up possible scenarios and drama that could be happening between the women. Whether either of the women post anything on a social media platform, fans soon make accusations. No matter what these women do to take initiative, shutting down any hate, fans continue to create content attacking one another. Even after all these years later.
As February 2023 came around, the drama between Gomez and Hailey Bieber hit a breaking point. As Kylie Jenner joins in, TikTok and Instagram seemed to be the battlefield. Gomez gets her eyebrows laminated as thousands of women have been doing this year. As she posts on TikTok about it, she announces how she accidentally laminated her eyebrows a little too much. Not even three hours later after Gomez’s post, Jenner posted a selfie of herself on her Instagram story with the caption “This was an accident???”. Followed by a FaceTime screenshot of her and Hailey Bieber’s eyebrows, tagging Bieber. Yup. That is what this whole scandal is about.
Soon, fans started posting how Hailey Bieber and Jenner were being “mean girls” in this scenario and how everyone is “Team Selena.”
“This is reaching. No shade towards Selena ever and I didn’t even see her eyebrow posts! U guys are making something out of nothing. This is silly,” Jenner replied to fans’ TikToks.
As fans take the context and post their opinions and theories, more and more comments and videos are posted almost as much as they are getting taken down.
“It’s all unnecessary. I’m a fan of Kylie!” Gomez replies to Jenner.
As fans dig and go way back to old social media posts, more comments and videos the women made about other celebrities resurface. When Taylor Swift gets mentioned in a rap battle, Hailey Bieber makes a clear gagging motion on the Drop the Mic show. This proves the fans’ name calling for Bieber, “mean girl,” falling into play.
“So sorry, my friend is and continues to be one of the best in the game,” says Gomez, immediately standing up for Swift.
After her comment Gomez announced that she is taking a break from social media.
“I’m 30 and am too old for this. But I love you so much and I’ll see you guys sooner than later,” says Gomez.
Who knows where this will all go and what will be continued as the women get older and hopefully mature a little more. But when a fan asks you, “Who’s side are you on?”, what will you say?
