A syAs the well-known Netflix series, “All-American” has ultimately grown to be one of the most popular shows on the platform, the spin-off series of “All American Homecoming” has also become a hit.

“All American” is a Netflix series that shows the value in friendships, equality and the importance of being a team. The storyline of the show is partially based on a true story, which follows the life of an NFL linebacker Spencer Paysinger and the struggles he went through being involved in gang violence and being an African American teen who goes off to Beverly Hills High School to better his football career. The focal point of the show is the friendships that are built throughout the show, which comes along with truth, trust and honesty. These friendships are very strong by the end of the show, and after the characters graduate they all split paths to focus on their dreams.

After the few seasons of “All American,” producers came out with a separate show that shows the backstory of a few characters who moved to Georgia from where All-American was placed, which was LA, to pursue what they love most. The show concentrates more on how the younger adults deal with the struggles of college and how they cope with them. The main character of the Homecoming series is Simone Hicks, played by Geffri Maya Hightower, who is a side character in All American. Hightower is given more spotlight in the Homecoming series then the regular all American Series, where she leaves behind her boyfriend Jordan Baker, played by Michael Evans Behling, to continue pursuing her tennis career at Bringston University inGeorgia. Some of the obstacles she faces is the drama between her tennis teammates, being in several situationships and even bomb threats throughout the school because of the amount of diversity within. She struggles with all of this, all while being able to maintain the few important friendships she has at the school. Hicks does a really good job at showing how to stay humble, and how to believe in herself.

“I think that that’s what a lot of people are going to be able to see from tennis to her romantic/platonic relationships, relationships with herself, self-love, and her as a mom are all the aspects of her identity that are definitely going to be pushed, because she’s in college. It’s a new world and a new time in her life,” said Hightower, who plays Simone Hicks in the show All American.
