The Halloween season is in full swing, and there are many activities one can do to get into the spooky season mood. Some ideas include watching scary movies or carving pumpkins, but arguably the best of all is going to haunted houses.
In the Sioux Falls area, there are many options to choose from for haunted houses or haunted activities. One of the most popular haunted houses in Sioux Falls is the Jaycees Feargrounds. Established in 1974, the haunted house is located in the Fine Arts building at the W.H. Lyon Fairgrounds and spans 6,000 feet. This year, the haunted house has a “Backwoods Nightmare” theme and has a scare rating of “scary.” The haunted house is open Monday through Thursday 7-9 p.m. and Friday through Saturday 7 p.m. to 12 a.m.
Although it is not located in Sioux Falls, Terror 29 located in Brandon is another good haunted house. With a scare rating of “very scary,” this haunted house may be one of the scariest in the Sioux Falls area. Open on Thursdays 7-10:30 p.m. and 7-11 p.m. on weekends, the haunted house is available to ages 12 and up.
Despite the fact that this next one is not actually a haunted house, it is still a great option to consider when looking for a haunted place to go. The Haunted Farm is located three miles south of Harrisburg and is open every Friday and Saturday from 7-10 p.m. Included in the farm are hayrides, animals and a trail. This is probably a more kid-friendly option, a good place to bring younger siblings or a fun activity if babysitting younger kids.
This last one is an honorable mention because it is not in the Sioux Falls area. Fear Asylum is located in Brookings and is the highest-budgeted haunted attraction in South Dakota. Set in a large mental institution, they have over the top detail and a scare rating of “very scary.” The Asylum features movie quality costumes fx and is recommended for mature teens and adults. The Fear Asylum has varying hours so best to refer to the website for specific dates and times.
