For some, Valentine’s Day is full of love and happiness. For others, it is dedicated to sulking in their singleness. For those solo flyers who need inspiration, look no further than this Valentine’s Day guide for single people.
1. Listen to “Single Ladies” by Beyoncé
Honestly, I could listen to “Single Ladies” any time of the year, but it hits different on Valentine’s Day. This song makes it feel like being single is something to celebrate, which can lift sad spirits immediately, plus everyone could use a little Beyoncé in their life.
2. Watch “The Bachelor”/”Bachelorette”
What better way to celebrate being single than watching a bunch of single people fight over one bachelor or bachelorette? Watching this show and seeing around 30 men or women come out of it single can make you feel a lot less alone.
3. Go to Qdoba and kiss someone to get a free entree
Although I am not entirely sure this is a real thing, it does not hurt to try it (especially for free food). I can say that it might be embarrassing to kiss someone in front of innocent Qdoba workers, but it is definitely worth a shot.
4. Download Tinder (only for people 18+ of course)
Tinder is a great way to find other single people, and maybe you could even schedule a date for Valentine’s Day and go get your free Qdoba entree. Also, flirting with strangers and coming up with clever pickup lines could help brighten your day.
5. People-watch couples
Arguably one of the most fun ways to pass time is to people-watch. What better time to people-watch than on Valentine’s Day in public, when you could even go as far as to wear a disguise so that no one recognizes you?
6. Sit in bed and cry
This may be the most accurate and relatable activity but this will surely not make you feel any better about being alone. To make it better, you could invite a friend over to cry with you.
7. Go to Target and buy yourself a box of chocolates
Who needs a significant other to buy you chocolates when you can go to Target and buy the exact ones that you want yourself? This activity ensures that you get however much chocolate you want without the hassle of relying on someone else to pick the right kind.
8. Apply for “Love Island” (18+)
Even if you do not get onto the show (which is likely, no offense), it is still a fun process to apply and submit pictures of yourself.
9. Order yourself flowers with a different name so that you can pretend someone else bought them for you
This activity is foolproof and if you do it early enough, it might give you enough time to forget that you ordered yourself flowers in the first place, which will leave you with a nice surprise.
10. Get a facial
Self-care can immediately improve your mood, and self-care with little to no work like getting a facial at a spa is even better.
11. Get a couple’s massage
Even though couple’s massages are geared towards couples, there is nothing wrong with inviting a friend or family member to get a massage with you. A massage will leave you feeling amazing and will make you forget you were single in the first place.
12. Read
When in doubt, pick up a good book, get cozy by the fireplace and read. If you read romance books, it is always fun to imagine you are one of the characters and that their life is your life.
13. Get ready with friends and go to dinner
There is nothing more healing than getting ready with your friends, doing each other’s hair and makeup, picking out outfits and going to dinner. It is even better if you treat yourself to a fun drink and dessert while you are there.
14. Get a manicure/pedicure
There is no better feeling than a fresh manicure and pedicure, and chatting it up with your favorite nail tech may even be better than therapy.
All jokes aside, being single is never a bad thing. Focusing on yourself and your self-love journey should be seen as a positive aspect of your life, not something to feel bad about like society tends to make it out to be.
