As the Men’s NCAA Final Four games are fast approaching, college basketball fans are excited to see the end of the month-long tournament and what team comes out on top.
March Madness is a widely promoted tournament over social media and the news. This tournament plays a big part in its viewers’ lives with the major social aspect it brings. Maggie Peterson, an applied math and geometry teacher here at LHS, looks forward to this event every year and the fun entertainment it brings.
This tournament brings together people through the power of sports, and the fun environment the games bring to any party makes for an enjoyable time. For Peterson, this NCAA tournament is fun for everyone and is a great way to meet new people.
“The NCAA Tournament is so fun because it’s easy to get involved with it. I think people enjoy it when they make a bracket because then they have a stake in each game! It’s fun to have ’your team,’ even if it’s just for that game,” said Peterson.
Peterson also appreciates the unpredictability of the game, keeping its fans on their toes and always creating a fun environment.
“Basketball is a fun sport to watch because scores can change so quickly; the unpredictability of each game makes the tournament exciting,” said Peterson
Peterson incorporates a crucial part of March Madness into her classroom: the tournament brackets. Students in Maggie Petersons’ classes can receive extra credit for filling out a bracket. Peterson displays the brackets in her room and maintains a bracket leaderboard. Peterson uses March Madness brackets as a fun activity for her students and an opportunity to boost their grades. Peterson tries to introduce her students to the fun activities March Madness brings to the month and tells her students her favorite parts of the tournament.
“My personal favorite part is watching an upset – especially if it’s a super close game. I love cheering for the underdog and if it goes to OT, even better!” said Peterson.
