As the new school year is set in motion, the hallways always feel a little more full, filled with a sea of unfamiliar faces and opportunities waiting to be taken. Stepping out of one’s comfort zone to meet new people and form new relationships can often be difficult when taken on alone, so surrounding oneself with others with the same ideas makes the entire experience more comfortable and enjoyable. Housing over 25 clubs from the Coffee Club to the Mind over Matter Club, LHS provides a safe space for everyone to freely connect with others while participating in activities that interest them. Knowing this, here is a descriptive breakdown of some of LHS’s most popular clubs.
Best Buddies
Having no prerequisites and possessing some of the most fun opportunities at LHS, Best Buddies is one of the largest clubs among all grades. Best Buddies involves high school students working closely with the RISE program to give them previously inaccessible opportunities. The club centers around forming new friendships through exciting activities that often involve teamwork, such as a basketball team, show choir and simple activities like arts and crafts.
National Honor Societies
With over four strains of National Honor Societies, covering a variety of subjects that include math, science and reading, it is not surprising that they are some of the most popular, extensive clubs here at LHS. Some prerequisites must be met before being given the chance to apply, such as grade level, academic performance and courses taken; however, once accepted, the experiences at these clubs are exceptional. Activities across all strains of NHS include guest speakers, volunteering opportunities, presentations, games and more.
SALSA
SALSA, also known as Serve and Learn Student Association, is a service organization that provides high schoolers with impactful volunteer opportunities within their community. It gives students a sense of security around their peers and a solid foundation that enables them to explore new skills that may help them discover future career ideas. Additionally, SALSA gives students a platform to demonstrate leadership skills and gain recognition for volunteer work. There are no prerequisites to join SALSA, making it one of the most notable, accessible clubs here at LHS.
