The well-known Netflix series “Outer Banks” (also known as OBX) has recently come out with their fourth season. Jonas Pate, the director of the series, has had to accommodate permanent changes within the cast, leaving the public with a mix of emotions.
OBX is an American thriller that revolves around adventure and unsolved mysteries. The past three seasons of the show have focused on a group of teens known as “The Pogues” and their determination to find lost treasure and accomplish various challenging missions. This group consists of JJ (Rudy Pankow), John B. (Chase Stokes), Sarah Cameron (Madeline Cline), Kiara (Madison Bailey) and Pope (Jonathan Daviss). By the end of season one, the Pogues come about many new discoveries which lead to the rest of the seasons.
Season four of OBX dropped on Oct. 10, 2024. The season begins with the Pogues living the dream life after winning thousands of dollars from pieces of gold they had found in previous adventures. After buying back JJ’s father’s land, building a home and building their very own bait shop, they are completely satisfied with life. When they suddenly are given a quest by a character known as “Groff” to find a missing crown, they find themselves in conflicts and realize they cannot trust anyone. Overall, season four was filled with emotion, betrayal and loss. After one of the main characters is “killed off” in the show, the public is left with many conspiracies for the next and final season.
“We were pretty sure early on that this was where it was going. We thought that one of the Pogues would die almost at the very beginning in season 1, and we were pretty sure it was going to be JJ,” Burke told Cosmopolitan in November 2024. “We just weren’t sure when we were going to play that card. We knew this would be JJ’s season — this is JJ’s story. And we realized pretty early on, like, ‘OK, we’re going to play this card now.’”
Needless to say, season four of OBX has been filled with ups and downs; the ending of the season has definitely left the public with questions about season five. How will Pate transform the series after killing off JJ?
