As we wrap up 2024, it is time to reflect on the many unforgettable trends, artists and celebrities that set this year apart. As social media continues to rise, so do the number of TikTok trends and influencers that impact our year. As well as the influencers, many mainstream artists dropped many memorable new songs and albums in 2024.
Many new TikTokers have risen to fame this year, most notably Hailey Welch, Nara Smith and the Costco guys, who all recently blew up on the app. Hailey Welch went viral during an interview on TikTok and has since started her podcast Talk Tuah podcast. Nara Smith has blown up on the cooking side of the app for making ridiculous snacks and meals for her children from scratch. Similarly, on the food side of the app, the Costco guys went viral for reviewing the chocolate chunk cookie from Costco and having ‘brain rot’ humor. Much like the idea of brain rot, many other trends and aesthetics blew up this year on TikTok. One of the most considerable aesthetics this year was the clean girl aesthetic. The clean girl aesthetic is all about looking effortlessly put together and always clean. You can often find a ‘clean girl’ with a slick back bun and little to no makeup. Another similar aesthetic that rose this year was coquette. The coquette aesthetic consists of lots of baby pink clothing, bows and decor.
In addition to the rising influencers and trends, many singers and songwriters gained popularity and released new music this year. 2024 was for female pop artists like Sabrina Carpenter, Taylor Swift, Charli XCX, Billie Eilish and Chappell Roan. Taylor Swift finished The Eras Tour this year, grossing over two billion dollars, making twice as much money as the second highest-paid tour ever. This year, she also released “The Tortured Poets Department,” her newest album. Chappell Roan’s popularity grew exponentially this year, increasing her monthly listeners from one million to 42.1 million since 2023.
