On Jan. 26, 2025, the Kansas City Chiefs pulled out a win over the Buffalo Bills in the AFC Championship Game. At this point, it seems like the Bills losing to the Chiefs and the Chiefs going on to win the division is just an annual tradition. On the other side of the bracket, the Philadelphia Eagles pulled off a large win over the Washington Commanders to secure their Super Bowl appearance.
For a majority of NFL fans, the ideal Super Bowl matchup was the Commanders facing off against the Bills. The last time the Commanders ever won a Super Bowl was over 30 years ago in 1992. Similar to the Commanders, the Bills played in the 1992 Super Bowl but lost. The Bills reached the Super Bowl four times in a row starting in 1991 and made their last appearance in 1994. Both of these teams have not seen much postseason success within the last 30 years, which is why most people wanted them both to make the Super Bowl. Unfortunately for most, the favorites in each game won, meaning the Eagles and Chiefs will be competing in Super Bowl 59.
Back in 2023, the Eagles faced off against the Chiefs in Super Bowl 57. Most NFL fans were rooting for the Eagles because of how dominant the Chiefs have been. Two years later, it is almost the same story. While not all fans are happy about this match-up, those who dislike the Chiefs will be pleased considering the talent that the Eagles have to offer. On offense, they have what seems to be superstars in every position. Quarterback Jalen Hurts is young but experienced; his all-around play of passing mixed with rushing is a lot to deal with for defenders. Also in the Eagles’ backfield is Running Back Saquan Barkley. Barkley is one of those once-in-a-decade types of players with possibly the greatest highlight reel of all time. He is an underrated catcher and an amazing rusher going for over 2,000 yards this season. On top of that, the Eagles have elite receivers in AJ Brown and DeVonta Smith, along with the backbone of their offense, the offensive line, which is regarded by most as the best unit in the NFL.
For the Chiefs, it is mostly the same story. They have added some receivers like Hollywood Brown, DeAndre Hopkins and also drafted Xavier Worthy. Ever since Tyreek Hill left in 2022, the Chiefs have not really had a clear-cut wide receiver one. This fact does not matter considering they have certified Hall of Famer Travis Kelce. The key component of the Chiefs is Patrick Mahomes; he can make game-changing plays out of nothing and has been the best quarterback of his generation. The game-changer this season for the Chiefs has been their defense, they have one of the strongest run defenses in the NFL and a reliable secondary. They have a lot going for them when it comes to players and coaching giving them a strong chance to win the Super Bowl.
Super Bowl 59 should be a good match-up, there is a high likelihood that this matchup will be more entertaining than Super Bowl 58 due to the Chiefs formula for postseason success and the Eagles with their upgraded roster.
