The song that plays to alert you to hurry up to class can make or break your mood. These hallway songs have been played all year; some are fine, but some are unbearable. We are determined to figure out what songs make people go insane and what songs people tend to tolerate. So, we sent out a survey asking what everyone’s favorite and least favorite song was and what they thought should be the next hallway song. We then produced the hallway song tier list.
Based on the survey, the number one best-ranked song was “Mamma Mia” by ABBA, it had a strong 21.8%. “Mamma Mia” is a pop song featuring ABBA’s lead singers Agnetha Fältskog and Anni-Frid Lyngstad. It was released in 1975 as part of the album ABBA. It is such a popular song that there was a movie featuring and a storyline based on the song, named “Mamma Mia” and was released in 2008. This song has a strong upbeat rhythm with fun lyrics and a catchy melody. In second is ”If I Could Turn Back Time” by Cher. This song is a classic older pop song. This song was released in June of 1989 and was a part of Cher’s album “Heart Of Stone.” Following it up in third place was ‘’Just the Way You Are’’ by Bruno Mars. This is Bruno’s most-streamed song on Spotify off of his album ‘’Doo-Wops & Hooligans,’’ and is always a catchy song to hear while making your way to your next class.
LHS’s least favorite hallway song was a tie between the single ‘’Eastside’’ by Benny Blanco and ‘’The Man’’ by Aloe Blacc off his ‘’Lift Your Spirit’’ album. They each shared 23.2% of the voting, taking up almost half of all the votes. Both of these very popular songs are in the ’pop’ genre. For both of these artists, these songs are some of their staple tracks. However, they seem to get very annoying after listening to them for an entire school year. In the third least favorite spot goes ‘’Love Story’’ by Taylor Swift. Love Story is one of Taylor’s older and more outdated songs, which the voting backs up.
With our survey, we also added an option for people to place their ideas of what should be the next hallway song. The most voted song ended up being ‘’Tweaker’’ by GELO. Out of the 24 responses we had, four said Tweaker should replace an old hallway song and become the new superior hallway song.
In summary, some hallway songs are great and should remain in the rotation, but others need to be replaced with fresh new tunes.
