LHS has taken on the Broadway musical, “Matilda the Musical,” for its spring performance. Based on the Roald Dahl book, “Matilda” is a childish, fun, upbeat show that leaves the audience with a strong, impactful message.
Matilda Wormwood is a five-year-old prodigy fascinated by her books and the stories contained within them. Her parents, on the other hand, are glued to the “Telly” and have many salsa dance championships to catch. Her father, Harry Wormwood, decides to finally enroll her in school, and she begins her first days of kindergarten at Crunchem Hall, run by the school’s headmistress, Miss Agatha Trunchbull, a world-class hammer thrower. Throughout the musical, Matilda meets many different kids, all while telling her local librarian a story about a spectacular acrobat and escapologist. Finding a happy balance between her home and school life is hard, but with the help of her teacher. Miss Honey, it becomes a bit easier, especially if she develops some unusual abilities.
Under the fantastic direction of Brian Hardie, Jacob Noordermeer, Kathy Ferguson, Anna Risty and Jason Raether, the cast, crew and pit orchestra will come together to put a childhood wonder on the stage on April 10, 11 and 12. The 10-12 all have performances at 7 p.m. and an additional matinee at 1 p.m. on the 12.
