Certain memories from the four years spent in high school will always stay with students, like the blue lockers in the hallways and the teachers who made an especially notable impact. Along with the amazing friends who provided one another with comfort each day, split up in different places for the years to follow. But there is much more within LHS’s walls. So many more goodbyes are left behind as seniors walk out the high school door for the last time.
This first goodbye is arguably the hardest. A majority of students have had the same student ID number since they started in the school district. The comforting six numbers will no longer be a part of the graduating class students’ daily lives. A number that is so familiar, left behind.
In addition to the student ID number, individuals must stop using their school email. Although many students likely never checked their email anyway, every student has their username memorized.
The third goodbye is one that I did not recognize until recently. But, on the last day of school senior year, returning from open periods, seniors will be checked into the welcome window and realize that was their last time showing a staff member their student ID. The most familiar face, Douglas Wegner, is always ready to greet everyone as they walk into school. Many seniors will miss such a happy face.
Although this fourth goodbye is not particularly a sad one, it is still noteworthy. The hike from a class by the A-Wing doors all the way to a class in the upper E-Wing. Such a long walk always requires the person to quickly pack up before the period ends, and try to walk into class acting like they are not out of breath. This schedule is always a pain, but most students have to deal with it at least once while attending LHS. Painful schedules like such will not be missed, but the familiarity with the school’s layout will be.
Finally, the bookmarks that act as coloring pages can be found in the school library and are truly the best thing about LHS. This goodbye will haunt me and many others who discover this treasure in the LHS library.
