You might regularly hear the phrase “a man’s best friend,” but how often do you stop to consider the meaning behind these words? A statement frequently used to reference the most common household pet in the world, dogs have earned this prestigious title for many reasons.
1. Dogs can make you happier than most humans ever could.
There aren’t many feelings better than coming home to a dog at your house, greeting you with barks and a wagging tail. No matter how good or bad your day has been, you can count on your furry friend to cheer you up when you walk through the door. They will always be excited to see you, even if you don’t always give them the attention they deserve.
2. Dogs are always willing to participate in your daily activities.
Your dog is always willing to take part in anything you’d like to include them in. Are you trying to meet your daily step goal? You can bring your dog with you, as they will be happy to tag along. Every dog enjoys smelling the scents outside and seeing other creatures and people pass by. Do you need to run a quick errand? Ask your dog if they want to go for a car ride. Whenever I ask my dogs this question, they whine with excitement, jump on me and wag their tails from the time we’re still in the house until we arrive at our destination. Dogs can make even the most boring and routine things more interesting. Something that we might dread could be the highlight of your dog’s day.
3. Dogs give unconditional love and affection.
Canceled plans? All is well because you get to spend the evening with your loving companion by your side. No matter how much time you have for them, your dog will always be there to spend time with you. Dogs would choose spending a day with their owner over anything else in the world, because all they want is to provide love and comfort. Have you had a rough day? It’s okay because the tears you shed will be quickly licked off your face by the pet lying on your lap to provide you comfort.
4. Dogs are protectors.
When you earn a dog’s trust, they will do anything they possibly can to protect you. At any sign of threat, they are there, barking in warning and ready to defend if necessary. Although a dog’s barking might seem excessive, it is probably just because they want to protect you. They don’t understand that innocent people passing by on the street mean no harm, so they bark as a precaution. They don’t ever want anything bad to happen to their owners!
