On Aug. 22, 2025, Laufey released her newest album, “A Matter of Time.” Inside this album, Laufey continues to use her jazz emphasis that made her originally popular. The question is, how does this album live up to her prior ones that helped pave her road to success?
The first track on the album, titled “Clockwork,” references the album’s name. This track shows listeners the theme of the album, love and heartbreak. Time is obviously a big part of this album, and Laufey shows this within this track with the melody of the clock ticking.
Another notable track on this album is “Snow White.” This track discusses the ideas of self-worth and self-reflection. Laufey uses the lyrics, “I don’t think I’m pretty, it’s not up for debate.” She talks about the struggle with confidence, which emphasizes the sadness and emotional side of this track. This is certainly one of Laufey’s most vulnerable tracks and is one of my personal favorites off the album.
Later down the album, “Tough Luck” was a track that was released as a single, teasing what was to come. When I first listened to it, I could tell the emotion was very powerful inside this track. Laufey dives into the anger that heartbreak can bring. This track provides a nice mix of jazz and pop, which feels a little out of place on this album. Regardless, this track is one of my personal favorites on the album.
“A Matter of Time” tackles some tough topics, and Laufey is not afraid to show the difficulty and troubles that come with it. Throughout the entire album, Laufey seems to use a little too much pop for her style; however, while that may disappoint some, I truly loved it. I felt as if it was a perfect blend between the two, even if it felt slightly off in some tracks. “A Matter of Time” is an amazing album from Laufey, and while it is certainly not my favorite from her, it is clear that there was a lot of effort and emotion put into this album.
