High school is only four years of your life. Sure, there may be a lot of eventful moments and lingering memories, but some people (unfortunately) attempt to make it last for the rest of their lives. While most people move on and go to college, get jobs and start families, some just can not let go of high school. Here are 10 surefire signs that someone peaked in high school.
- They act like senior year was the best year of their life.
Every story from someone who peaked in high school always begins with “Back in senior year…” This is not a bad thing until it is the only topic they can speak about; it is like they have not grown as an individual or moved past anything since senior year, and yet they’re pushing their mid 20s. It is time to move on.
- They still care about high school drama.
Their main focus in life is still who is dating whom.. They still follow teachers and what they’re up to. Their central focus in life is still inside high school. While the entire world moves on without them, it’s as if they are stuck in time.
- They still show up to sports events.
One of the worst behaviors of these types of people is still attending their high school football games. If you just graduated and are going to support your underclassman friends, that is fine. But when you graduated five years ago and don’t know a single person on the football team, then it is a real problem.
- They constantly compare every current event to high school.
Every current life event that’s going on just cannot compare to high school. Work is nothing like “the good old days.” They refuse to make new memories and are completely hung up on the past.
- They constantly try to catch up with old high school friends.
The second they have free time or come home to see their parents, they immediately try to hit up their old high school friends, searching desperately for anyone who is available to hang out with them.
- Their biggest accomplishment remains in high school.
Sure, you can achieve many major achievements in high school, but when their only brag is being voted “most likely to succeed,” five years ago, it’s a little worrisome.
- Their social media page is like a time capsule.
Going to someone’s page who peaked in high school is like walking back into those doors. They likely have an old profile photo, and they likely have barely posted anything since high school.
- They believe being an adult is overrated and boring.
People who peaked in high school tend to be bored and find nothing engaging as adults. They dislike the responsibilities and individuality they must have and hate working on their own with little to no guidance.
- They firmly believe that nothing will ever top high school.
Since these people typically cannot move on from high school, they idolize it. They truly believe that those four years as a teenager were the glory days, and typically don’t believe any other event can top it.
- Reunions are one of the biggest events they look forward to.
If they’re not gloating about how great they were in high school, they’re probably trying to coordinate a reunion as soon as possible, or talking about it nonstop.
It’s not about being popular; “peaking in high school” is simply just refusing to grow past four years of your teenage life. If someone you know has some of these signs, maybe attempt to help them move forward and get past the stage of believing high school was truly the best time of their life.
