“IT,” the new horror movie depicting Stephen King’s novel, can be described as horrifying, funny and revolutionary. Breaking records for a horror movie, on last Thursday, “IT” terrified and entertained audiences.

On Thursday, Sept. 8, “IT” was released to hyped viewers. I went to the film on a Friday night with a group of friends. We had been anticipating the movie for months and were excited to finally get a chance to see “IT.” The show sold out, but luckily my friends and I got in.

I had some idea of what to expect because I had watched all of the  trailers before hand, and “IT” lived up to the hype. Pennywise was terrifying. IT’s askew eyes and eerie smile made the character played by Bill Skarsgård perfect. All of the parts where Pennywise the clown were on screen were terrifying as expected but also too interesting to look away from. The clown took the form of the Losers’ (the group of kids in the film) biggest fear and chased them. This could be anything from a leper or painting off a wall. All of these scenes were scary and really well done.

Another of my favorite aspects of the movie was the character development. I did not feel like the Losers were just there to be scared. They all were really exciting to watch and interesting characters. In the movie, you will see them battling IT just as much as you will see them swimming at the Derry lake. There was never a dull moment between scares as the Losers cracked jokes and made fun of each other, as many groups of kids do. They were not model kids, they were real kids.

Finally, at the end of the movie, the kids make a pact to return to Derry if the monster ever awakens. This sets up for a second movie that will hopefully be released in 2019. In all, I loved “IT.” It was one of the best movies I had seen all year. If you have not already, I suggest grabbing a group of friends and going to see “IT” this fall.
