Super Bowl weekend: SD getting represented

Oliver Lockwood-Powell, Sports Editor

This Sunday, Feb. 4, the Philadelphia Eagles and the New England Patriots are set to take center stage in Super Bowl 52. The game is to be played in Minnesota at U.S. Bank Stadium, the Vikings home turf. For many football fans around the globe, this game is huge. But for Sioux Falls natives, this game is even bigger.

Nathan Gerry of WHS, and former Nebraska Husker, has made it to the biggest game of any NFL players career in his rookie season. Gerry is a linebacker and has seen solid minutes in his first season with the team. Representing SD, Gerry looks to contribute to the team against Tom Brady and the notorious New England offense.

Going against one of the greatest of all time in the Super Bowl will not be an easy task. Brady, being a five-time Super Bowl champion, will be on the other side of the ball hoping to get around Gerry and his teammates.

The Eagles defense is one of the top rated defenses in the league, and looks to carry that momentum into Sunday after defeating the Minnesota Vikings in the NFC championship game two Sundays ago. Not only will their defense need to show up, but also their offense better be in tip top condition against Matt Patricia’s high-scoring defense.

No matter the outcome of the game, win or lose, Gerry looks to put Sioux Falls on the map and show out for friends and family back home.
