A different downtown diversion
May 16, 2016
In the Carpenter building downtown, the ballroom will soon be home to a new location of Keller’s Green Grocery. It is the former venue of the restaurant Ming Wah. The place provides a European-like shopping experience. They also offer fresh products and items that are locally produced. A lot of restoration had to be done in order to set the stage for the upcoming site. There is busyness in the building which has offices, apartments, and retail along with more restoration projects.
The new store holds goods such as dairy, frozen items, produce, and meats among other grocery products. Travis Petersen plans to manage the store and is currently looking for locals who are willing to supply the store.
The grocery store features a kitchen which centers on quickly prepared foods with a focus on vegan and vegetarian meals. The kitchen is run by the chef of Parker’s Bistro, Addison Avery. There is seating both inside and outside the store.
The goal is to offer higher end groceries for those who want to grab a bite before heading home. They hope to bring options for downtown residents apart from the only other grocery store previously there, Sunshine Foods. Moreover, Keller’s Green Grocery store intends to make vegan and vegetarian foods a unique introduction to customers who do not expect the same flavorful tastes of meat incorporated dishes.
Keller’s Green Grocery recently held an open house and asked the public what they would like to see in their store. The store is planned to open on Jun. 1. There are several choices for nonmeat-eaters as well. With the increase in the number of organic grocery stores in Sioux Falls, citizens are bound to find healthier options that meet their needs at every corner. The addition of a new grocery store is the perfect solution for the long awaited requests of downtown residents.
