Be sure to catch Night Moves at Total Drag tonight
May 23, 2016
The Minneapolis psych-country trio Night Moves is playing at Total Drag in downtown Sioux Falls tonight. Give this group a listen. They released their new album “Pennied Days” on Feb. 25 with Domino Recording Co. and their last album “Colored Emotions” is just as beautiful. Their album art sets the perfect scene for their soul-searching eerie ballads. The influence from artists like Bob Seger is obvious; the band is named for his album performed with The Silver Bullet Band.
First track “Carl Sagan” gives a taste of their psychedelic soundscapes and sliding guitar effects. Guitarist John Pelant’s vocals sound hauntingly beautiful, sort of like Bono’s. “Leave Your Light On” is a song one could nod along to, the nostalgic sort of jam a bride and groom could dance to at a wedding. Appreciate the piano opening on “Border on Border,” and the rocking intro to “Hiding In The Melody.” There is a nod to Bob Seger on “Kind Luck” when Pelant sings it keeps you running along… Overall, “Pennied Days” is a great album for driving under the moonlight through the heartland with a loved one.
The doors will open at 7 p.m. tonight at Total Drag, the music beginning at 8 p.m. Tickets are almost sold out, but you could probably snag one at the door for $10. Local songwriter Thomas Hentges, also known as Burlap Wolf King, will start off the show with a set. Rock on!
