LHS girls tennis in full swing
September 19, 2016
Having an undefeated season is something athletes strive for. It shows how hard they have worked and gives them a sense of accomplishment. This is just the case for senior Brooke Lovrien and the LHS girls tennis team, who are currently undefeated and hope to keep that momentum going throughout the season.
Lovrien has been part of the LHS girls tennis team since seventh grade and is playing her sixth season. Since the start of the season, Lovrien and the team have been practicing nonstop. Playing in more tournaments, starting earlier and practicing harder are just a few of the various activities the team has done to prepare for the season.
“We all practiced harder because we knew we were going to have a really good team this year,” said Lovrien. “With the Brower sisters coming to the team, everyone was fighting for a spot on the top six.”
Being part of an undefeated team is rewarding, but beating a team that LHS has not beaten in 14 years is something really special, which is exactly what the tennis team has accomplished.
“We have been trying to beat O’Gorman for so many years,” said Lovrien. “I am glad that it was my senior year that we were able to beat them. It felt so good and it was so huge for the team because it gave us confidence.”
With State being just around the corner, Oct. 6 through Oct. 8, Lovrien and the team are using their momentum from the start of the season to finish strong and hopefully come out on top.
“Being undefeated gives us confidence,” said Lovrien. “It gives us confidence in a way that we will go for our shots and go on the court knowing that we have the ability to win and to try our hardest. We are going to be in a pretty good spot for state because we have pretty much played everyone and have not lost to anyone, and that will build our confidence. We will focus and be practicing more just to prepare for state and get our minds in gear.”
