Things I wish I knew my first Homecoming

At the start of freshman year, many thoughts ran through my head. Were the upperclassmen going to shove me in lockers? Was I going to get tripped in the hallways and have my papers scatter everywhere? Was I going to have to stay up until one in the morning every night just to try and finish homework? Once the school year started these myths were definitely proven to not be true, but another misconception that I did not know to be accurate or inaccurate was whether to dress up for homecoming.

Do’s

  • Do go all out when dressing up for the homecoming themes
  • If you don’t have anything for that theme, you can go to Savers, Goodwill or even borrow something
  • Be sure to go to the homecoming football game support your school
  • Go to coronation to see who is crowned LHS’ new king and queen
  • Stick around for the pep rally to see your cheer and dance team perform
  • Do go all out on decorating your door for door wars

Don’ts

  • Do not skip school after ad room because you will miss pizza and games
  • Do not expect less homework just because it is homecoming week
  • Do not think that your vote for coronation does not make a difference, every vote counts
  • Do not wear inappropriate clothing and try to pass it off as the theme of that day

Now that I am a junior, I have learned a lot of important lessons throughout the years. One of the most important ones is no matter who you are or what you do in high school, just be yourself. Don’t be afraid to try new things and meet new people. Some of my experiences have come from being in uncomfortable and felt out of place. But high school is where you make some of your best memories and I know I already made some of mine.
