LHS junior cross country and track athlete Courtney Klatt definitely made her first season at LHS one to remember as she helped to lead the girl’s cross country team to a convincing state championship win and collected numerous individual accolades. All of her hard work paid off during the season when she placed first and received the State XC Individual Champion award during the state meet.

LHS cross country and track coach, Eric Pooley, appreciates the leadership qualities that Klatt has brought to the team this season after transferring to LHS from Brandon Valley.

“She brought a steady presence daily to our team and a work ethic that is second to none,” said Pooley. “She is a natural leader that will be given the reigns to our team in her senior season.”

Senior teammate Katie Patrick also attests to the amazing leadership that Klatt has provided to the team and how much she cares about the team.

“First of all she has not only been our fastest runner, but also a role model and light to guide the team,” said Patrick. “She is smart in her running and super coachable. She gave our team a fun and vivacious vibe and she came everyday with a work ethic like no one else.”

Along with her SD Cross Country individual title, Klatt placed 12th and metalled at the Roy Griak Invitational, a national meet, she was a vital member of the State XC Championship team and she currently holds four school cross country records. Outside of running, Klatt excels in the classroom with a 4.0 GPA, and is involved in FCA. After her senior season next year, Klatt hopes to continue her running career at a Division 1 university.
