Goblins and ghouls rule the school

Abbie Griffin, Staff Writer

When most people think of Halloween, they think of pumpkin carving, haunted houses and bone-chilling decorations. Others may imagine little children running around neighborhood blocks in superhero and princess costumes collecting all the candy they can possible get. But in the halls of LHS, Halloween took an unexpected twist this fall.

This Oct. 31, the LHS Statesman put on the Statesman Scare Affair. Before and after school in the weeks leading up to Halloween, the Statesman staff members sold stickers in the library foyer for $ 1. All the money made from this fundraiser went directly to support the LHS Statesman school newspaper. This allowed for students to dress up in a costume of their choice. Principal Val Fox excluded face paint, masks and of course, clown ensembles to ensure safety and overall fun. On Halloween Day, students roamed the halls in spooky ghost and crazy cat costumes and many others of their choosing, while following the already existing dress code of course. Students who did not follow the dress code or did not have a sticker were sent to the office to change into appropriate clothing.

At the end of the day on Halloween, the Statesman staff was able to raise $197 for the school newspaper not including the staff itself. With the turnout of this year and all the hair-raising fun it brought to the halls of LHS, this spooky dress up day may become a tradition every year on Halloween.
