Noem announces 2018 bid for SD Governor
November 21, 2016
Rep. Kristi Noem just won her fourth term to the U.S. House in the historic 2016 Election. With this win, she will return to Washington D.C. with her party having control of Congress as well as the Presidency. Instead of seeking a fifth term in 2018 Noem announced that she will be returning to her home of SD to run for Governor.
Noem has been serving as South Dakota’s U.S. Representative since 2011, and before that, she served in the South Dakota House of Representatives. Noem had made a promise that she would not make her time in Congress a permanent career, and she is keeping that promise after a video was released by the Argus Leader shortly after the 2016 Election announcing that this term would be her last.
“I still believe in the spirit of citizen legislatures whose temporary service helped found our nation,” said Noem in her campaign video on the Argus Leader. “I ran for Congress in that spirit. I plan to work hard, push conservative solutions and to make a difference, not make a career out of Congress. So once I serve out this coming term, I will be returning home.”
With the election having just ended, Noem will return to Washington D.C. with hopes of enacting some new policies and taking a break from campaigns before starting her own in 2017 when she runs for Governor.
“We just got through one campaign season, and we all need a break from politics,” said Noem. “So while my campaign won’t kick off officially until next year, I want you to know that I am all in.”
With this announcement, Noem will try to become the first female Governor of SD. Starting in 2017, Noem will begin her campaign and show the people of Sioux Falls that her experience and love for her home state give her the experience South Dakota needs.
“Our future depends on our ability to honestly evaluate where we are today and make the tough choices necessary to create new opportunities for families and small businesses,” said Noem. “I want our young people to thrive in South Dakota. I want them to be able to find rewarding careers and raise their children surrounded by family and friends – in communities that solve problems together.”
