Our new president elect, Donald Trump, has been receiving a lot of criticism and his inauguration hasn’t even taken place yet. The judgements that have been made are obviously not based on his abilities to run the country, since he hasn’t started doing that yet. The riots and protests that have taken place are getting a little bit out of hand, and it feels like this is splitting our nation into two halves. About half of the country was rooting for Hillary Clinton to become president, and the other half, myself included, voted for Trump.

With all of the backlash that Trump has received, disrespect and violence has been thrown around the big cities of our countries. Snapchat featured the reactions to the election of several people, some of which were pleased with the outcome, and others not so much. Some of those people featured on Snapchat who weren’t in favor of Trump were seen burning flags and chanting around their cities, “not my president,” as well as other hateful chants. First of all, by burning flags you’re not only backlashing at Trump and others elected, but you’re disrespecting those who have died fighting across the oceans to earn your freedom. Secondly, he is your president. Whether you like it or not, Trump is going to be the next president of the U.S., so people might as well give him a shot. He hasn’t stepped foot in office yet, so chanting those words means nothing until people see what he can do in office.

For those who claim that our country is going to ruins now because of one person, that’s not true either. With our system of checks and balances, there is no way that one person can ruin our country. Also, there’s still a possibility that he could be a great president. No one can judge that as of now. It looks like everyone will have to wait until January to find out.
