The early risers of LHS

The library is a common gathering place for the LHS early risers.

Early in the morning, while many LHS students are trying to savor every second of sleep, some students make their way to school, the LHS early risers. These students, unlike the typical teenager, jump out of bed without a problem and head to school in order to socialize with friends or catch up on homework and get other things done. However, every early riser has their own reason for coming in early.

“I love coming in early because I can avoid the general population and be alone with my thoughts,” said junior Erik Rossing. “Also, I love listening to ‘Good Morning’ by Kanye West.”

Another student, Eliza Peters, a junior, believed it is a good time to get back on track with school work.

“I can get some homework done that I didn’t get the chance to do the night before,” said Peters.

Then there are students like junior Ann Madson, who have to come in early to practice for chorus or other school activities.

“I don’t like coming in so early but I find it necessary, so in the end it pays off,” said Madson. “The earliest I come in is 7 a.m. for chorus.”

Although many students may find it useless to come in so early before school, the early risers think otherwise. They believe the good outweighs the bad. Rossing feels so strongly about the matter that he believes there are no downsides to it, in fact he finds it a relaxing way to start his day.

“I can’t think of one,” said Rossing when asked about the downsides of coming in. “I would say this is the most relaxing time to get here because the fluorescent lights and the mindless chatting with other students ease the mind.”

Teenagers are generally stereotyped as sleep craving creatures who will do anything to get another minute of sleep, but that is not the case for a small group of students at LHS, a group that prides themselves on their work ethic and phenomenal parking spots.
