December 13, 2016
“Stranger Things,” “Orange is the New Black,” “Friends” and “Gossip Girl,” are the favorite shows of many. What if Netflix told you that you could now watch them without using wi-fi? This once unimaginable dream is finally coming true.
Netflix just announced their decision to make their movies and TV shows downloadable. This means that viewers can download what they want to watch and watch it whenever, without using wi-fi. Netflix favorites can now accompany viewers on car or plane rides with the easy touch of a button. To download content, the directions are simple. The menu button on the top left corner has the option of “Available for Download.” Select this, and movies and shows will now be easily attainable. Updates on iOS, Android or Amazon FireOS apps are necessary for the downloads. Netflix’s goal by adding this feature, was to make it easily accessible for everyone around the world. Its competitor, Amazon Prime, has also recently allowed viewers to download movies and TV shows. With Amazon Prime being Netflix’s number one competitor, Netflix will need to continue to grow globally to keep their famous name.
“Netflix is working with lots of partners globally to get downloading rights for the bulk of the content on our service,” said Marlee Tart, a Netflix spokeswoman, according to WIRED.
Not only has Netflix added this extremely convenient feature, it has also been working on adding its own original content. Netflix has created approximately 600 hours of its own content, in new shows like “House of Cards,” “Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt,” “The Killing” and “DareDevil”.
Netflix has been one of the most popular entertainment streaming companies for a while, and with its continuing improvements, will be for years to come. Forbes even featured it on its “World’s Most Innovative Company” list.
