Bare beauty

“I wish I looked good without makeup.” “Wow I look horrible. I really need to put on some foundation.” “Ugh, my face is breaking out. I need to get better concealer.”

Walking into a girls bathroom, someone will probably hear a conversation about how a girl think she looks that day. Whether it be good or bad, girls critique themselves a lot. They are judged on their appearance, and as many know, society’s standards for “pretty” are unreal at this point. Most of the girls who think they look bad or think they are ugly have a solution. Makeup. Is this really a solution though? Is packing on layers of foundation, contour powder, lip liner, eye liner, mascara and lipstick really the best solution we have?

Many celebrities and probably even some girls around school are saying no. Celebrities like Alicia Keys have gotten rid of their makeup artists and promoted their bare face campaigns for all to see and follow after. People like Keys want to challenge society and get rid of any misconceptions that makeup means beautiful.

I agree with this campaign. I constantly catch myself saying that “I look gross today,” “I wish I could go without makeup” or that “I need to put some makeup on if people are going to see me.” I think it is important to see that women are beautiful on their own. I do not think makeup is a bad thing at all, and I personally really enjoy doing it, but I think that girls should be comfortable going to school and out in public without it. Girls should love their own skin and at the same time put on their makeup for a night out and take a bunch of selfies because they think they look awesome.
