LHS juniors start up streetwear clothing brand; “Vertencia”
February 13, 2017
Supreme. Stussy. Billionaire Boys Club. All clothing brands that come to mind when streetwear is mentioned. However, there might be a new name on that list very soon.
LHS juniors Erik Rossing and Sam Haas recently decided to dive into an entrepreneurial adventure and started their own streetwear clothing brand, named “Vertencia”. The pair started selling products on their website around two weeks ago, but the brand did not just pop out of thin air.
“The idea came to me when I was sitting in Psychology class,” said Rossing.
Although the idea had been birthed, the budding clothing company still needed its name. The way Rossing and Haas came up with it is even more exciting than the way the company was invented.
“I saw the word ‘warning’ written in spanish in my car, which is ‘advertencia,’ and then I took the ‘ad’ out of it,” said Rossing. “We thought it was a good idea because since it isn’t technically a real word it wouldn’t be copyrighted.”
Now Vertencia clothing is establishing and trying to get its name around by advertising and raising public awareness about their brand.
“We are trying to gain a following by self-advertising and finding sponsors and running a social media page called @vertenciaclothing on Instagram,” said Haas.
The Instagram page has 80 followers and is continuing to gain popularity and grow. As are Haas and Rossing’s dreams.
“My dream for Vertencia clothing is to have people to be excited to wear Vertencia clothes,” said Haas. “I’m not only in it for the potential money; I just want to see people liking the idea and supporting what we do. I hope we can get to be a major brand so that we can open up our own store eventually.”
Vertencia clothing has a very bright future ahead of it. Rossing and Haas have big dreams for their company that they may be able to achieve through hard work.
