The live remake of Beauty and the Beast is set to release on March 17. Despite the rapidly approaching day, there are conflicts that are arising. The film features a gay character which has caused an uproar. In the movie, the only action that is shown is two men dancing together at the very end. According to People.com, Russia has updated an age restriction on the film to protect kids from the “overt and shameless propaganda of sin and sexual perversion under the guise of a fairy tale.” Russia is not the only place banning the movie for certain ages, there are bans that are much closer to home. A theater in Alabama has recently refused to show the film and many people are advocating for a ban in Disney. On a website labeled OneMillionMoms.com has created a petition against the movie that already has 50,000 signatures. There is a large question as to whether or not this will affect the movie’s success in the box office, and many people are eager to see the true results.

Even though there is a large backlash coming from the character, the film is also receiving praise for it’s coming-of-age choice. Many people are satisfied with the fact that it stepped outside of the comfortable box that movies tend to stay in. Actor Josh Gad, who plays the character, has recently spoken out about the issue and said “What I would say is that this film is on of inclusiveness. It’s one that has something to offer everyone.”
