Raiders are breaking up with Oakland for Las Vegas

On March 27, the Oakland Raiders decided to leave California and set their sights on Las Vegas. With a 31-1 vote, NFL team owners decided to approve the move.

This move is the third for NFL teams since the start of 2016. The Rams moved from St. Louis to Los Angeles two offseasons ago and the San Diego Chargers decided to follow in their footsteps a couple months ago.

While the Rams and Chargers moves make sense, because neither team was able to reach deals with their previous city to build new stadiums and had very minimal attendance for their games, the Raiders look like they just decided to move to Las Vegas to be closer to the bookies.

Similar to the Chargers and the Rams, the Raiders did not have their own stadium to play in. Their sharing of a stadium with the Oakland Athletics was the impetus for their move.

However, the Raiders had very impressive turn out for their games. In fact, every year they made their trip down to Qualcomm Stadium in San Diego and took up more seats than Charger fans.

Their fan base in Oakland was extremely powerful. These fans were just starting to get hyped with the success of their young football team along with the success of their basketball team. These fans in Oakland are still scratching their heads on what they did wrong to lose their team. At the end of the day, the team needed a new look and a new stadium.

The Raiders will not be leaving immediately. They will not play their first down of football in Las Vegas until the 2020 season. Their young team stacked with talent still has the opportunity to win a championship for Oakland before moving.
