Fine Arts student of the week: Hansen
April 6, 2017
This week’s Fine Arts student of the week goes to a dedicated art student, junior Carrissa Hansen. She was chosen by her painting teacher, Susan Waagmeester, for her hard work, talent and love for art.
Hansen has been in an art class in all of her years of high school, including Drawing I and II her freshman year, Painting I and II her sophomore year and Art Independent Study Painting I and II this year as a junior. Waagmeester chose Hansen because she has “paint in her veins” and she has gotten the opportunity to teach her in an art class every semester for the past three years.
“I have had Carrissa in an art class every semester for all three years she has been at Lincoln and will continue to have her in class next year when she will be a senior,” said Waagmeester. “She has really been interested in art for as long as she can remember. She is such a hard worker, and art is her life, so she is always striving to push herself to the next level.”
Aside from just being passionate about art, Hansen is truly a gifted artist. She has had her artwork entered in contests and featured in places outside of LHS.
“She won third place in last year’s Regional High School Art Show,” said Waagmeester. “Her work has been displayed at IPC on their display board in January each year she has been at Lincoln.”
All in all, Hansen stands out from the crowd when it comes to art, especially painting, at LHS. As the years go by, she grows as an artist and it is exciting for Waagmeester to see how she has developed.
“I just love having Carrissa in class, it’s fun when you have a student who can’t get enough art and are always working to make what they do better,” said Waagmeester. “You just know that this will carry over to her adult life and she will be a success no matter what she finds herself doing after high school.”
