LHS track team looks to make it another record season
April 10, 2017
As known by many, the LHS track team has a history of being one of the top teams in the state. Both sides, boys and girls, won the state meet last year, so there were high hopes coming into the 2017 season with many high-achieving returning runners. Breaking into the middle of the track season, the team has been competing at the top of almost every meet so far this year.
The most recent track meet of the season, hosted in Brandon, included wins from many standout LHS athletes for both the boys and girls teams. On the boys side, the 4×100 team landed on top and got first place with a time of 43.89. The boys also won the 4×800 relay finishing with a 8:19.95 time. Junior, Colin Brison helped propel LHS with a 200m dash win, scoring a time of 22.88. Also winning a race, senior, Gabe Peters finished first in the 3200m run, running a 9:45.98 time. For the field aspect, junior, Malik Redd ended up winning the triple jump, finishing with a jump of 42′ 9.75″.
The girls also had some standout races, with junior, Courtney Klatt, also winning the 3200m run, going for 11:43.92. The 4×800 relay team scored first place, and created a new meet record with a time of 9:46.34. Along with that relay, the 4×400 team pulled out a first place with a run of 4:06.69. Running a 49.25, junior, Ryley Heier won the 300m hurdles. Senior, Becca Bindert, had an outstanding meet, winning first in the discus, 111′ 4″, and in the shot put, 38′ .5″.
As seen by the results of the past track meet, LHS’ high hopes will continue and hopefully strive for another state title in the 2017 season.
