With the influx of new artists ranking up in the charts, the old favorites belonging to the ever-evolving genre of indie and alternative rock that previously defined hot and wild summers will bring back nostalgic sounds this upcoming summer.

Gorillaz releasing their fifth studio album and first one in nearly six years, “Humanz,” seemed to officially declare the summer of 2017 the summer of new jams from our favorite indie and alternative artists. Foster the People, mostly popular for their hit song “Pumped Up Kicks,” (released with their 2011 album “Torches”) recently released three singles that will belong to their third album. The singles include “SHC,” “Doing It for the Money” and “Pay the Man.”  Foster the People has yet to release further information about the album, such as when it will come out and what it will be called.

Speaking of nostalgia, Lana Del Rey is due to release her upcoming album “Lust for Life” May 26. She released a single that shares the same name as the album and features The Weeknd. The Roaring 20’s era type vibes that encapsulated her previous albums will instead shift to a more 1950’s dreamy-romance-movie star-suicide vibe, which generally follows the theme that Del Rey pulls off so well.

Alt-J will kick off the month of June with their album “Relaxer” which, judging by their early releases “3WW” and “In Cold Blood,” strays somewhat from their iconic and signature fast-paced sound, staying true to the album name- it is definitely relaxing. The unique jungle vibes that Alt-J perfects is taken down a notch as the Leeds-based band experiments with various themes for their soon-to-be-released masterpiece.
