Come for the game, stay for the trailer: ‘Star Wars’ trailer shown at halftime of Bears, Vikings game
October 12, 2017
Monday night, many Sioux Fallsians could be found watching the Bears Vikings football game. Some watched because their favorite team was playing, while others watched to see how they would do this week in Fantasy Football. But a majority of people watched for the trailer shown at halftime.
The first half of the game was uneventful- a three to two point game is almost nothing in football terms. But after 30 minutes of play, something eventful finally did happen as the new trailer for “Star Wars: The Last Jedi” aired.
“This is not going to go the way you think,” Luke Skywalker says towards the end of the trailer- a warning to the audience that they have no idea what to expect.
Maybe we don’t know what to expect, but there are some hints.
The first part foreshadowed is Rey being the center of the movie again because of all the scenes she is in.
The second thing we can probably expect to see is Rey being very, very powerful. The opening clip says “when I found you, I saw raw, untamed power and, beyond that, something truly special” and then shows Rey with a lightsaber.
We can also tell she will probably be very powerful because of Skywalker’s line “I’ve seen this raw strength only once before,” most likely referring to Darth Vader. “It didn’t scare me enough then: It does now,” probably referring to Rey.
Lastly, this movie will probably have the dark side winning, going along with the pattern of the first two Star Wars trilogies- first movie is even between the two sides, second movie the dark side wins, third movie the light side win.
Does this mean Luke Skywalker has switched sides? Will Rey follow her cousin, Kylo Ren, to the dark side? We will have to wait until Dec. 15.

For those of you who really were watching the game for the football part and not the “Star Wars” part, the game ended with a win by the Vikings 20-17.
