Trump allows JFK files’ release
October 25, 2017
Every day cell phones of Americans around the nation light up with news alerts informing us of decisions made by President Trump. This week they have seen various news stories on decisions that Trump has made, but during the past few days Americans were likely to have gotten alerts on a choice that he did not make. Trump’s choice (despite the opinions of a few security council members) to allow the JFK files to be released.
Although none of the student body was alive when John F. Kennedy was assassinated over half a century ago, the event that rocked the nation is being brought up again today. This is because the last of the classified files related to the government investigation are scheduled to be released tomorrow, Oct. 26.
Trump stands unwavered in his decision, refusing to bend to the wills of the security council members who fear that the documents may reveal the inner workings of how the government conducts investigations, though this is unlikely the case. The government officials largest fears are in fact the conspiracy theories that may be fueled by citizens misunderstanding the files themselves. It is highly improbable that Americans will discover any groundbreaking information, but those who have been keeping up with the investigation will finally be able to come to a conclusion with all the information known to them.
Trump’s choice to sanction these files is what he calls an act of increasing transparency within the government. Although there are still quite a few areas that could use a little more clearing up, many Americans can agree that this is the step in the right direction.
