LaMelo and LiAngelo heading to Lithuania
December 12, 2017
LaMelo and LiAngelo Ball, the two youngest Ball brothers, are headed overseas to play basketball. Last night the two of them signed with a Lithuanian based team named Vytautas. The Ball’s agent Harrison Gaines met with Vytautas’ GM Virginijus Seskus and a contract was signed in less than two hours.
Going overseas allows LiAngelo and LaMelo to skip out on college and focus on basketball, but this decision comes with a lot of controversy. Many think that the one year of manditorary college for basketball players that aspire to go to the NBA is already too little.
The struggling Vytautas team hopes that the new addition of the Ball brothers brings a sense of excitement to their club. Currently the best player on the team is the coaches son Edvinas Seskus. The only other american player the club has ever signed is former Vanderbilt guard Brad Tinsley. The club is based in a town of around 10,000 people and their games are played in a 1,700 seat arena. 500 of those seats are reserved for family and team sponsors.
Though I don’t agree with both of the boys being allowed to skip out on schooling, I do understand that their unique skillsets will allow them to make a living without a college education. Also with recent controversy and drama surrounding both LiAngelo and LaMelo a change in scenery will be good for them.
