During this year’s Golden Globes ceremony, Oprah Winfrey received the Cecil B. DeMille award, an annual award given for “outstanding contributions to the world of entertainment.” It was her acceptance speech that followed that led to multiple standing ovations and ignited speculation throughout the country that she will run for president in the 2020 election.

The idea of a billionaire running for president does not seem that far fetched anymore. Many people that think Oprah will consider running although she has not yet announced her intentions. Her speech touched many relevant topics in today’s politics and her eloquent speaking abilities allowed viewers to see her as a possible leader.

According to the Los Angeles Times, her longtime partner, Stedman Graham said “It’s up to the people. She would absolutely do it.”

Despite what other people think, others close to Oprah have doubts that she will choose to run in the election. Her best friend, CBS co-anchor Gayle King, said on air, “I do think she is very intrigued, and I also say, as I’ve heard for many years on the ‘Oprah Winfrey Show,’ you always have the right to change your mind. But that is certainly not something she’s considering right now.”

For now, everyone will have to wait for a public announcement or the start of a campaign to know the truth about her intentions to run.
