Trump’s Border Wall

In June of 2015, President Trump’s main campaign promise was to build a wall that borders the U.S. On April 3rd, Trump announced that the wall was finally being built.

The wall is at 20 miles long as of right now. It has been built by the Santa Teresa border which is a good start but for Trump, he claimed that he wants this wall to be longer. Trump has repeatedly said he wants the wall to cover 1,000 miles of the 2,000 mile U.S. Mexico border, meaning we still have a ways to go.

The U.S. Customs and Border Protection announced that the height of this wall will be ranging from 18 to 30 ft high depending on whether the height of the terrain it is on is high or low. It was added that the top of the wall will include a metal plate that is an extra 5 ft of the wall and will add an addition of several feet of concrete below the wall.

While many are busy building the wall, Trump’s administration thought it would be a good idea to send 1,600 national guard troops to the site of the building. The troops purpose is to investigate and catch drug smugglers or human traffickers from crossing the border. Although this is not the maximum amount of troops Trump wants, it was announced that at least 4,000 will be sent to the wall.

This is only the beginning of the wall and it has only been a week since they have started building but they show the building process is going very quickly. Trump’s wall is estimated to be $70 billion to build and even more to maintain. Trump does not have enough funding to build the entire wall that he dreams of, yet, that is not stopping him from starting to fulfill his promise to the U.S.
